ACT remembers Peter Bochove

May 1, 2013

The AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) extends its condolences upon the passing of Peter Bochove.

As owner of the Spa on Maitland in the 1990s, Peter was extremely supportive of ACT's work to expand outreach and education to gay and bi men in bathhouses. He welcomed ACT's presence in his bathhouse and encouraged other bathhouse owners and managers to do the same.

As owner of Spa Excess, Peter remained a staunch supporter of our work, and of promoting the sexual health of gay, bi, and queer guys. He supported the TowelTalk bathhouse counselling program and Spa Excess has remained a venue where our counsellors have a regular presence.

As a champion of the LGBT community, he worked tirelessly to ensure that his venue was a welcoming space for everyone, making efforts in particular to include racialized men, through events such as the Asian Bathhouse Nights organized by Asian Community AIDS Services (ACAS).

Peter was not just a businessman. He was someone who truly cared about the health of his community and the men within it. He will be missed.
